John Carpenter, the mind behind the characters from the Halloween franchise and The Thing (ed. note: not to mention my personal fave, The Fog), will add movie marathon host to his list of titles. The filmmaker and composer will be guiding us through Shout! Factory TV’s Masters of Monsters weekend in November, where he’ll share his love of all things Godzilla.

According to Nerdist, Carpenter will introduce and share his thoughts on his four favorite monster films the weekend of November 3rd. Nerdist also shared a clip of Carpenter talking about one of his favorite composers, Akira Ifukube, who worked on almost 300 movies and created Godzilla’s iconic noises.

Check out the clip below:

Today I learned from John Carpenter that Godzilla’s infamous roar came from “rubbing a broken-down double bass with a rubber glove!” Who would’ve guessed? Carpenter will reportedly be sharing more of his thoughts and feelings about his four favorite monster films directed by Ishiro Honda over the course of the four-day event.

You can get more nuggets of knowledge from Carpenter when the Masters of Monsters weekend kicks off Thursday, November 3, at 6:00 p.m. PT and 9:00 p.m. ET with the original Godzilla. The following nights will feature Rodan, Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster, and The War of the Gargatuas. For more information, visit MastersofMonsters.com.
